Hi! My Name Is…

August 5th, 2010 by ArchangelUK

Its half five in the morning of the day before, the day before SOS and I’m just writing a quick blog on here despite being completely messed up by tiredness, energy drinks and headache tablets to talk about something I actually focused on during last week’s Radio Redux.  Namely… your names.

Now after the introduction at SOS I’d at least expect you to recognise me or Dreadknux, you might well want to come up and say hello. You might even be the big man on campus, er, the forums and want to talk to as many familiar people as possible from Retro, the SSMB, Entherial Online, etc.  Well here’s the thing, you could frankly be THE WO/MAN but, and this might shock you, just because you know who we are that doesn’t mean if you come up to me and Dreadknux with a “Hi Dread/AAUK!” and a cheery smile we’re going to break out the hugs. Its more likely you’ll get a confused smile and a “Hi there…. er… champ/sport/buddy/dude/pal!” Because the likelyhood is we won’t have the Scoobiest of Doos who you flaming well are based on your face alone.

See: Online Fanbase(!)

So here’s two very simple tips:

Introduce yourself! Follow it up with an “It’s (handle) from (location), nice to see/meet you!” or similar.

(Incidentally we don’t bite, if you want a photo or something – amazingly there are those that do – just ask.  We may ask if you can come back later, but if so it’s because we’re busy at that time and it’s not suitable.)

Why NOT have a sticker on the left breast of your t-shirt with your net/forum name? You’ll then be able to spot other people you know and then chat to THEM!

And heck, even if you don’t know people there interact for heaven sake – don’t just sit there drawing a picture. Have a chat with your fellow fan, you might well make some new friends… you’ll at least have a video game passion in common!

But whatever you do have FUN Saturday.  Now if you don’t mind I might be able to sneak 30 mins of sleep before I need to get up for work.

Toodles.

But I am a hermit, I don’t know the meaning of socialising :U

  2. Donna says:

I will happily chat to anyone!
I used to be unsociable and scared of talking to new people, but attending events and cons has helped me make some new friends. :)

  3. I would talk to new people but I get nervous talking to new people…….I think I may have made a good impression of Sega Racing last night…..Any tips on not getting scared meeting new people

  4. D00dlebug says:

Well all I can say is that last year I made a couple of great one-day friends so I’m all up for it this year! I’m bringing my cousins along as a birthday present so we’ll definately be asking for photos lol

  5. Simon says:

Any chance of going up to you guys and going “hi, they call me Sonic.”Seriously though I get nervous talking to new people.

  6. Josh says:

I’ll be talking to everyone, come on guy’s its not like we don’t have a common interest.
This is assuming everyone going is as sad as me and has eaten, breathed and slept sonic for 19 years. Although doesn’t seem that long ago I was playing sonic one at 6am before my Dad got up on the floor in the lounge. Wait I did that yesterday too. :P

  7. Jakeiiii says:

I will know at least one other fan going to that event, I’ll be happy to meet others too! :D

  8. Aggron says:

I’m going with my sister and Friend, I’m a pretty tall, big, blonde guy so its not hard to spot me, even in a crowd, ha ha

  9. Superdanielmon says:

I’m going with my sister and a friend aswell! Madness…..

  10. If anyone was bothered to look out for me then I’m wearing a white retro sonic t-shirt, a black open fleece and i’ll have a sonic bag….I have frizzy blonde hair aswell

  11. DVD Smith says:

I’ll be wearing a Sonic shirt but from about 15 minutes into the day I’ll be in a Crush 40 shirt. I’m a tall Scottish bloke, doubt there’ll be that many of us about :D

  12. ununennium says:

I’ll be wearing a jacket with allot of zips.

  13. Deadly920 says:

I’ll probably be wearing whatever I get my hands on – perhaps a Crush 40 T-shirt, throughout the day. Although there’ll be a ton of people with them on – going with Superdanielmon and his sister, so we’re going to be in a group – hopefully we’ll get to talk to some people~

When they said “Find 10 Hermit Crabs”, they meant “Find 10 people who didn’t talk at the event.” :L

  14. Steven Kelly says:

well i hope someone talks to me then ^_^

  15. Aggron says:

    I want a Crush 40 T-shirt so bad D:
Why must I be beyond the normal sizes!?

(Is it me, or do they only make short and wide shirts, but no long and wide shirts?)

  16. Kevin says:

I second this bit of advice. I enjoy meeting people, so if anyone wants to say hello to me, look for a boy with short brown hair and glasses on wearing a blue retro sonic shirt. Additionally, I’ll also be saying hello to people as well, especially the ones who I know very well online that are going to be at SoS.

  17. Gabz Girl says:

If I can find it, I’ll be wearing my Team Sonic t-shirt which I won in a contest a few years back. Although…you could always just recognise me by my Pucca (or Tokidoki?) bag, my little Knuckles plush and my blond hair and glasses. XD Plus I’m pretty tall…for a girl.

I’m pretty shy, but I don’t mind talking to new people. ^^

  18. Lucaruoboss says:

If anyone wants to find me or say hello to me or something,I’ll be wearing a yellow Sonic t-shirt with jeans a Sonic the Hedgehog bag with keyrings on it.I’m petty shy at first but I’m fine when people know me better or something,y’know that kind of thing…..I’m blond as well with dark hilights.

  19. Casanova says:

I’ll have a Sonic tie on and a name badge… unless I start to feel silly in which case I’ll take them off… but I’ll also be the dude on stage hosting buzzbombers.

  20. My name is Reggie. I’m about kicking ass, I’m about taking names, and WE’RE about MAKING GAMES.

    Viva la Reggielution!

  21. JayZeach says:

@DVD Smith; You’d be surprised how many of us scots there are :P We’re a dying breed but we have managed to nest ourselves within summer of sonic and continue to grow in strength and numbers

  22. Hood says:

I’m more of a “lone wolf” type of guy but in the event this happens,I suppose i could try be social for just one day

  23. Ninjendo says:

I’ll be going with my boyfriend so I would at least have one friendly face ^_^ I’m very shy >_> though nice idea with the name tag, I’m going to start producing a nice ‘Ninjendo’ to stick to my t-shirt right now :P

  24. Steven Kelly says:

two more dayyysss i cant wait :) i am acctually so exited

  25. Becky says:

I should be carrying round a chaos emerald and doodling anime at the art table. And maybe playing a bit or a large bit of Sonic Colours.

  26. bcdcdude says:

I’ll be wandering around wearing bright pink Sonic pyjamas. I should be fairly noticable :)

  27. Cassie Reynart says:

Hmm, I don’t think “I’ll be wearing a sonic t shirt” really is that best a way of saying how to find you in a crowd (of sonic t shirters).
I think I’ll leave my sonic PJs behind (new look mens dept ftw!)
