SoS ’10 Cosplay Contest Announced

June 9th, 2010 by Flyboy Fox

The SoS crew are delighted to announce that we will be having a Cosplay Competition again this year!

Last year saw some amazing entries as Summer of Sonic attendees wowed us with their talent, passion and creative flair. The level of talent and dedication involved blew us away, and so it’s with our ‘dare ya!’ faces on that we ask - can YOU do better?
There will be prizes on offer for the best costumes on the day, so it’s time to get down to the charity shops and craft stores, rummage around in that bag of old clothes you were about to throw away, and show us just what you’re made of.

There will be a semi-enclosed area just inside the entrance where you will be able to change into your costumes if you don’t fancy parading all around London dressed up (why on Earth not?). You may also leave your costumes there while you explore the convention, but please note that you do so at your own risk. With so much going on, we can’t be held responsible for any missing belongings, so please do be careful.

Finally, we really do want you to have the best of fun and be as creative as possible with your costumes, but in the interest of safety we do ask that you don’t bring with you any item that can be used as, or looks like, a weapon. Clearly whimsical and dud items are fine, but you will not be able to bring any realistic weaponry props into the Pavilion, so bear this in mind before you set out.

So, let us know if you’ll be cosplaying this year, and get to it and dazzle us!

  5. Allybee says:

If there’s somewhere to get changed – fantastic! I had images of walking around London dressed up as Charmy Bee and getting some pretty, strange looks! On the hunt at the moment for an open face motorcycle helmet lol!

  6. shadowzac says:

  7. flyboyfox says:

Lydia – ANYONE can cosplay :)

  8. Casanova says:

I might just wear a suit and tie. Tada! I’m Mr Tanaka!

  9. 7Force says:

My friend whos coming wants to cosplay as Aika from Skies of Arcadia for this but she may not have it ready in time. And yes I know it’s not Sonic but I believe that SoS should also be a celebration of SEGA as well as Sonic and show them that we still remember the stuff they did in the past, that we still remember the good old days.

  10. Necros says:

@7Force Hey, that’s me up there cosplaying Purge, the main villain from Space Channel 5 Part 2, a Sega game which not even the representatives remembered, so believe me, the standard has been set for playing Non-Sonic but Sega characters.

Just be prepared to have no one recognize who you are ^^ I didn’t mind, but my friend said he was cringing and cowering in the corner when I went on stage and did a line, and received a chorus of silence and cricket noises XD

  11. @Necros: Yeah, I’ve played the original SC5, but having not played Part 2 (as with most of the rest of the people there) I was… somewhat confused.

‘Course, nothing wrong with cosplaying as a non-Sonic character, just Purge was one of the more obscure characters to pick, to say the least. I bet you’d have had more luck playing Space Michael Jackson. Shamone.

@7Force: I’m sure Sega cosplay would be more than welcome, though I don’t see it getting in the contest (except for a cameo appearance) without a proper Sonic Team connection. Purge was half nobody knowing who the character was, and half that the development team for SC5 got merged into Sonic Team later.

But as a Skies fan myself, I know I’d enjoy seeing Aika at SoS >_>

  12. ShadowTG says:

Hmm, I’m making a costomised T-shirt. Will that count?

  13. Heaven the Hedgehog says:

I am working on my cosume since about 2 months. I even need to colour my hair, so that the cosplay-colour looks better. I really hope, everything is finished in time…. I’d really like to join the other cosplayers….

  14. Donna says:

Yes! I’m so excited! I’ll be there in my Princess Sally fursuit!

  15. Thomas says:

Excellent! This makes everything even more interesting :D now lets put the to the test! It’s time to cosplay!

  16. Aggron says:

The only Cosplay I have right now is a Heavy Weapons Guy from Team Fortress 2 which I wear to the London MCM expo :I

I’d love to go as Robotnik … YES ROBOTNIK … awwww, I want to cosplay now D: I guess normal clothes will have to do for me though

  17. FamilyGAMEGuy8 says:

Okay so i need glasses, bandages, a white dreadlocks wig, a cloak and lots of bling and finally I can cosplay as Dr. Finetivus

  18. Jakeiiii says:

I… will not be dressing up XD

  19. Heaven the Hedgehog says:

oh…. i’m afraid, my costume won’t be good enough. so many guys want to join this contest….. i’d really spend a HUGE lot of money for my greatest work ever…………. 174,17€………….. and a LOT of time……… well, good luck everyone……………… see you there!!!
