A quick introduction before I start! My name is Josh Urtheart
Cartlidge; most of you won’t know me, but you’ll have
certainly seen me at previous events as I head the security team
among other things for SoS!
Before I start, I would like to give thanks to those involved in
the Summer of Sonic door security the past two years: Phil
“vger” Sims, Joanne “Jemnezmy” Dowling,
James “JJ” Maloney, John “Turbo” Finlay,
Jessica “Violet” Palmer and Jason “Blake
Draco” Hill, all of whom have given up their time to help
make sure you guys get in safe and sound.
This year Summer of Sonic will be bigger and better than previous years, and so with the increase in size comes and increase in cost. We’ll be employing better systems for stage performances, showing off trailers and animations. We’ll have more events for you to participate in. Another part of making the event fun is making sure you guys feel safe by having proper security measures in place, and this also costs more.
However thanks to SEGA and the Summer of Sonic team, for the third consecutive year, Summer of Sonic will be a free event. That’s right, once again we won’t be charging you anything to attend the convention! Similar to Summer of Sonic 2009, we will once again have a registration period where you can sign up and get a ticket sent out to you electronically. With this ticket you will be able to get guaranteed entry into the convention, as well as get in before anyone without a ticket! All you need to do is present your e-ticket at the door; we’ll punch your ticket, stamp your hand, and let you in!
If you don’t have access to a printer to print off your ticket (or if you’d prefer to save paper) feel free to bring your ticket with you on your iPhone; I am more than happy to hole punch that as well.
More details of the tickets and registration will be coming soon.
See you all there!
Joshua Urtheart Cartlidge
Great, that has lowered the cost of me going!
great thanks for the update
Excellent stuff! I was more than happy to pay considering the size of the venue and the fun i’ve had the last couple of years, but this is great news indeed.
This is good. It means I can definitely come… assuming I can get there.
Is there an age limit to S.O.S? Because I’m 13, and I’m planning on bringing 3 friends with me and I just need to know if there is an age limit at all. Thanks.
Aye, I would have been more than happy to cough up as well, I dare not think how much something like SoS actually costs! Maybe there could be a way to give donations if people wanted too.. Or maybe you could sell stuff, like cake? Haha.
Alternatively you can send cheques to “T-Bird’s Dreadknux auction”. The highest donation will wins a romantic night out with the Dreadster.
It’s still going to be free? o.o Mannn lucky fans are lucky. Maybe it would be a good idea to put up a donation pool so people who would like to help out can give some pennies for a round of staff beers or something then. I think you’d be surprised at how many people would pitch in something.
Nice!
Wow, not many people have noticed this yet. Can’t wait for the day!
Woop! Just flight and train tickets now, and I’m good to go.
Thats cool though I would have happily paid for such a great days’ entertainment. I agree about the donation, I would definately give some money for such a good cause, aka beer :).
Awesome news! X3 I wouldn’t mind paying anyway, but it’s still great to hear that SoS will be a free venue once again.
T-BIRD I’ll give a bigger cheque NOT to go on a night out with Dreadster.
TRiPPY. For staff drinks. I’m pretty sure Adam will share the bottles I’m bringing, Ask him!
Awwww but now who is going to pay for my lattes!
@Megan: Don’t quote me on this, but I believe any people/groups under 16 will need adult supervision. The T&C which we’re hoping to get from Sega soon should sort it out.
@Megan: I agree with Ian, people under 16 should have adult supervision. This is a convention, not a rave
@ Ian & Ununennium – I totally agree with that, but I was just double checking to see if anyone could get in. My mother wouldn’t let me go in with out her anyways!
@Megan: to avoid *cough*chavs*cough*.
This is awesome this will be my first time going to the convention and me and my brother are so excited were true sonic fans
@Megan: That’s not a problem then, there’s no hard age limit.
cant wait, free ticket means more money for the aftershow drinks ;0
Cool. So…how do I register for a ticket?
@Ununennium – Why would chavs attend a Sonic The Hedgehog convention? And plus, I aint no chav right bro? No I am a repectable human being who talks decent english.
@Megan: I was not calling you a chav.
What is a chav!? Can I have one? ^_^U
Will: Ticket registration will be up shortly – keep checking back regularly as there will be a lot of demand this year!
Callum: First timers are always welcome – we look forward to seeing you at SoS this year!
Megan: Ian is correct; all under sixteens will need an accompanying adult with them to enter the event; we’re hoping to have some comfy seats for people to sit down just incase your folks want to have a sleep when they get too tired out from all the excitement!
It’s good to know that the event will be free this year. Although, I wouldn’t of minded paying a fee to get in anyway.
@T-Bird: Is there a way that I can sign up to be notified when early registration starts at all?
Its amazing that it’ll be free again this year! I’ve never been, as I just discovered this during my christmas holiday last year, and the fact that I officially became a crazed fan at the end of the school year a two years ago. There is an extremely slim chance that I could go. My dad would have to be on a buisiness trip, and I’d probably have to stow away in his suitcase. I’m getting slightly desperate to go.
When will registration begin?
i think that the registration well begin in 2 or 3 or 4 days

“Chao”
Free? Wow, this has really made my day, all I need to do now is get money for train and hotel fares … which reminds me, how many days is the convention?
if I can’t get money for a hotel (or a train pass for the second day) I might just have to go the day the concert is on >:3
i think that the convention well be a week becuz its spost to be a weekend
Sweet, just need a train ticket.
SoS is a one-day event, 7th August between (approximately) 10am-6pm.
Thanks for the info Ian :3
If you have FACEBOOK. On Summer of Sonic EVENT it says
Date: Saturday, August 7, 2010
Time: 10:30am – 8:00pm
Location: The Pavilion, Shepherd’s Bush Green, London (Intended)
THATS HOURS OF FUN
Hmm, if they want to raise money for next year, they could sell Chilli Dogs!
@ Jansen McCord – BEST. IDEA. EVER.
Will I need proof that I am 16 because I do not know where my birth certificate is and my parents won’t want to attend a sonic convention?
LOL Thanks Liam!
@Harry: No proof will be required, but we trust that people will be mature enough to come with company if they are under that age.
Registration will be available very very very very very soon.
YAY! When’s very very very very very soon then? And is there a limited amount of tickets?
Is very very very very very soon meaning today?
Hope so. LOL, am I posting a bit too many comments?
@ Ian Bennett ahh, thank you very much for the info, i’ve registered for my ticket and am currently awaiting a response and I can’t wait to see crush 40 at summer of sonic
