Welcome to the Summer of Sonic 2010 Website!

May 25th, 2010 by Svend Joscelyne

Hi there! You’re looking at the brand new 2010 website for the Summer of Sonic convention. We’re getting ever closer to this year’s event date, so you can be sure to see updates and announcements happening here very quickly! In the meantime, get excited for another round of Sonic the Hedgehog-related fun. The Summer of Sonic 2010 will be taking place in London (UK) on the 7th August 2010.

What is the Summer of Sonic?

A very warm welcome if you are new to this website! The Summer of Sonic is an annual convention for fans of Sonic the Hedgehog to meet in a single location and enjoy the flagship SEGA mascot together. This event was created by Svend ‘Dreadknux’ Joscelyne, webmaster of fansite The Sonic Stadium and professional video game journalist, and the event is co-organised and supported by SEGA Europe and, specifically, Kevin ‘AAUK’ Eva (Community Manager for SEGA Europe).

In 2008, the first convention took place in Covent Garden in London, where over 300 Sonic-crazed fans from all over the world attended to meet, chat and play some games. 2009 saw over 400 people visit the Truman Brewery in London’s Brick Lane, and nearly 1000 fans watched the events unfold via live video.

Past events have given fans the chance to meet series stars such as Richard Jacques, TJ Davis, Bentley Jones, Nigel Kitching, Nigel Dobbyn and Sumo Digital – as well as play various games in advance of the official launch date, including Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games.

What can I do here?

This website exists to provide attendees of this year’s Summer of Sonic event with information regarding special guests, shows, stage performances and travel details. We will be providing blog updates on a regular basis, starting later this week. We will be reaching out to the Sonic fan community to help make their mark on the Summer of Sonic – the Comments system on this website will allow you to communicate directly with us and chat to other attendees.

You will also get the chance to submit your own works of fan creation for display on the Summer of Sonic 2010 website. This feature will be opening later in the week. For now, why not use the comments system to tell us what you thought of past conventions and what you would like to see this year! We take on board all that we read, but obviously we can’t do everything suggested – although we might be able to do it in the future…

Do let us know your thoughts, guys! Excited about this year’s event? :)

  2. Marie says:

Yeh. Really excited about this years event, will be more excited when I know where it is and which hotel everyone is staying at. Last year there was only Sumo Digital staying at the same hotel. but we did have a good chat walking to Brick Lane.
This year I would like all the staff to do a karaoke competition. (I know who will win).

  3. Pretty bloody stoked if you ask me!

Looking forward to it just as much as last year, got my train tickets booked!
Hoping to do some more hanging out with people instead of doing a mass circle around the room, though. :P

Balthamos: It will be in London, as announced some months ago. Feel free to book anywhere in the central area and plan your London Underground journey for the day, after the exact venue is announced. Simples. :)

  22. Cinossu says:

IT IS LOUD AND FUN DAMNIT :O

  25. zoe says:

One little question will it be at the same place that it was last year

  26. The Boiler House was really the Last Chance Saloon, as all our other venue negotations fell through (£1 million liability? No thanks.) and it was pretty late in the day, so we’ve found another new location this year. And we’re pretty enthusiastic about this one ^^

  27. Alex2beta says:

    @Ian Bennett

You already found a location to place the Summer of Sonic on? I MUST KNOW! But in 2008 i think it was this place that had this name that had to do with dragons, right? Anyway i can’t wait until you or Svend reveal the location!

  28. Yep, that was the Dragon Hall community centre in Covent Garden. We’re hoping to be able to announce the venue very soon, legal stuff is a freaken minefield >_>

  29. Setnaro X says:

I live in Miami, Florida and I would definitely love to travel to London to see this convention. I’ll have to save up my work money all through these months in order to afford plane tickets, but I’ll try to make it any way I can. I will need somebody from London to help me out though, so I don’t feel all too alien or something :D

  30. Syaming Li says:

Ahhh, I love you guys so much for keeping this London-based. So little hassle for me that way >_>

I will probably do what I did last year- organising a meet so that I can escort a number of people to the event (As it worked rather well last year) as well as blogging information for everyone to see. Between that time, I will probably be working on a celebratory piece for Sonic’s 19th birthday (and an even bigger one next year~!) Can’t tell you guys how much I’m looking forward to this, as I do every year~!

Just to re-iterate: If any of you delightful folks are already thinking that travelling around London is going to be a literal minefield for you, then by all means let a Londoner do it for you~! I will start blogging information for the event as soon as we know more from my deviantART site, witjh all sorts of travel information, and details for meeting me so that you don’t have to travel the Labyrinth of the London underground on your own. It will be a meet at a major London station, preferably attached to a major rail station (Liverpool Street, Waterloo, possibly even multiple ones). So keep your eyes peeled for that~!

  31. Shadz says:

I will definately be there. I’ve not missed one yet so why start now? Already booked the time off work and I can not wait!

  32. Omg this is awesome! I’m going for the first time, and I can’t wait!
Does someone actually know where it’s being held? yeah I know in London UK, but, where there? :/
I hope that info comes soon..

  33. Katiefoxe says:

I am so hyper to go into the Summer of Sonic 2010 this year, I’ll hopefully come along with my friends and my Mum!

  34. JayFoxFire says:

Bah, why must be in England? Its too far for me to fly to London just for one day of Sonic Convention….crazy. I envy people who lives there can go. :s

  35. Megan says:

OMG SQUEE. I’ve turned into a hyper active fan girl. I can’t wait for this years SoS! Last year was awesome, and for some reason, I feel that this one is going to be better than last years!

  36. zoe says:

When will you reveal the venue for this years summer of sonic convention?

  37. sheezy93 says:

omg :D i so totally cant wait for this but.. can i ask you something? will you give deaf suppost there? u knwo to help other deaf people understand what hearing person saying?

please it very important for me to know and peace out ^__^
ps if you want rely me you can go to http://www.deviantart.com i have a account and my username is sheezy93 ^^ thank you for ready!

  38. Megg says:

I can’t wait! My first ever convention. I just hope that Bentley Jones comes again, because he is awesome. I’m so glad I live in England, and now I’m tempted to bring friends!

  39. zoe says:

I Hope this year’s Summer of Sonic will be the best that everyone has never seen before.

  40. Jooles says:

If the venue isn’t announced soon it is going to be hellish expensive as I can’t book hotel rooms and train tickets until I’m convinced this is going to take place. Why has this not been finalized months in advance? Sounds a bit mickey mouse to me.

  41. Svend Joscelyne says:

Jooles: Hi. We should be announcing the venue very shortly. Unfortunately due to various legalities we can’t announce it earlier. We did finalise a concrete location in specifying that SoS 2010 will take place in London. That announcement was made many, many months ago – this should have been enough information for you to book your hotel room and train tickets. As long as you have a location booked in London for that weekend/day, you should have nothing to worry about as the venue will be a brief London Underground train journey no matter where you’re staying.

Hopefully the fact that we had a convention in both 2008 and 2009 to great success will be enough to convince you that this event will definitely be taking place, in London, on the 7th August. So feel free to book your hotel and tickets now, for the reasons stated earlier. Otherwise you might miss out, and nobody wants that.

  42. Jooles says:

^^ thanks for that Svend, perhaps that info could have been posted at the start of this topic for us newbies. Off to book train tix and hotel! :)

  43. Dr_Ultimate says:

I will be there. The Summer of Sonic event has been amazing every year and I can’t wait to come again this year.

  44. FlametheHedgehog says:

I wish I could come, but sadly I can’t because here are the reasons,

Reason 1: I live in the USA
Reason 2: It’s a lot of money just to get the UK
Reason 3: It’s a lot of money just to get hotel service and so forth.
Reason 4: I hate Travelling, but I would still go, but the other reasons tell me why. \

I might come next year even though I really want to got this year, I bet the Sos next year will be bigger because, it’s Sonic 20th Birthday, So maybe next year would be better, If I go there.
